We open for new commissions July 1st.

Mixedcandy will be opening for new commissions July 1st of 2008. What this means is that the order sheet will be open July 1st for new orders. These are a few things that I need you to have handy while filling out the order sheet.

These new commissions are to be finished October-December 2009. So please do not ask to be put in 2008 or early 2009 as we are fully booked.

  • Your Full Name
  • Address you want us to ship your costume to (to calculate shipping costs)
  • 3 view concept art (front, side and back view). If you do not have concept art please do not submit an order sheet. We are only taking orders for people with art. If you do not have art, you can still get some concept art drawn by any of these artists (prices vary).
  • Description as detail as you can make it, telling us what you want on your costume.
  • Please read the FAQ. Not in the order sheet, but please make sure you read the FAQ as it answers a lot of questions.

We really want you to fill the entire order sheet up, but these sections are the main areas you cannot skip. If you do, we cannot provide you with a quote.

This time we will only be open for: Full Costume or Partial/Half Costumes

Heads, paws, tails and other small pieces are not being taken at the moment.

Take in mind we do not make copies of characters that have been done before. We do not make game, or TV character or any critter that you do not own. So please make sure the idea is yours :).

Another thing to keep in mind is that the order sheet is not first come first serve. We close back up when our lists have been filled. We can decline your order if the character is no doable in a 3D/Real world format. So make sure what you send could be make into a real costume. I will give you a heads up if a few things can be changed to make it possible to be made as a costume. Most of the time this is not an issue.

If you are looking for an early quote, I will start providing some early quotes June 20th and up right before we open. That way you can have the 30% ready when we open in July.

As always if you have any questions, just email us: mixedcandyorders@gmail.com

New style of eyes! 3D glass eye

Click on the dog head to be able to see the eyes on video.

A type of new style for us that uses both the same techniques for glass eyes with the 3D eye effect. Or the effect that always follows the viewer. This is an optical illision as the actual eye never really moves.

The big difference between this sort of eye and the original 3D eye such as this example are. Original 3D eyes have a caved in look and overtime can warp from the amount of sweat. With the new style, you will never have a warped eye and it will give it a glossiness because it has a lens. Only vision difference with the new style is that you will have more "frontal vision" compared to the original 3D eye which has a bit better vision. Both have theirs pros and cons, but a fun new addition to our style.

If you want to upgrade your current order with us to this style of eye, be sure to email us at mixedcandyorders@gmail.com

Gallery is back up!

Problem has been fixed. But if the main gallery is ever back down again be sure to bookmark the mirror site version of the gallery on flickr. So back to the good old gallery look.

Thanks for reading :)

Gallery has been relocated for a little while.

We are currently going through some issues with the current gallery for the website. So we decided to create another to avoid any sort of down time. Once the old gallery is back up, things will get moved again without a problem.

But flickr will be our current home, and our mirror home for the gallery. So if you are having problems viewing the current gallery, just check our flickr one. It will be up to date with everything new.

Thank you for reading. And as always be sure to check our Livejournal community to see last minute news of what is going on at Mixedcandy.

Moving Jaw Preview

(you need flash to view this video)

Also posted via youtube if this one does not load.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp3qc-_Lozs

Press "right click" on your mouse on top of the video to replay it by pressing play. It will automatically play but will not Loop until you right click and then press play.

So I took a video instead of photos as I think it shows the movement much better. I did a prototype version on Vanessa (the sheltie shown first) and fixed it to be even more fluid a few days ago. We just finished a black wolf as well with an altered version of the system that works better on all head sizes. So here is our new moving jaw system :).

We are only offering the jaw upgrade to the ones that are currently on the list to get made. If you are interested in it please email us about it and we can update you on the fee for it. If you already have a mixedcandy head and want the new moving jaw, you will have to buy a whole new head. We can only add this to heads that have not been built yet. Sorry if there was any confusion.

Interested in a upgraded moving jaw??

We have recently developed a new moving jaw that works really well. If you are currently on our list with our old style of moving jaw and want to upgrade for a fee (due to the added time and materials involved in construction) to the new system Please contact me via email at mixedcandyorders@gmail.com . The old method works OK and was included at no extra cost because we just built the mouth area differently (we called these semi moving jaws, as it worked better on some). Now there is a plastic armature with hinges and elastics that works nicely.

We have closed again for commissions. We have been filling up a lot faster than expected so if you did not get on our list this time, we will re open July 1st 2008 .

Take in mind these commission take a while to work on them, and there are a lot of people in line to be worked on. So expect to wait a minimum of a year for most full costume creations. We are a 2 person team that tries to do as much as possible.

Oh, and be sure to read out FAQ and info page before emailing us. A lot of emails contain the same questions that can easily be answered by reading those pages. if you still have questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Best way to reach us, is by email. I tend to be working during the day, so getting to me phone might not be the easiest. I check my email many times a day, so I will be sure to answer your questions promptly.

Happy New Year from Mixedcandy. This year has been started on the right foot and already we are having a lot of fun around and out of the shop. We just got back from a small vacation we took, and were able to take some fun shots of a few of our costumes in the desert and the snow. A few of these shots will be posted later.

I have also posted a new banner up top to show when we re open for commissions. The FAQ sheet has been updated, so please read it completely before emailing us about questions that have already been answered.

We went to further confusion a convention in San Jose this past month and came back home with a best in show award. Thanks to the goats for stomping their crazy hooves all over the stage.

If you have any questions be sure to email us. Take in mind we update our mixedcandy livejournal a lot, so do not forget to bookmark that page.

Best of wishes for the new year :).

Busy, busy at the shop and a lot of new costumes. Above you can see a picture with a few of the many we have done since September this year. 2007 has been the busiest year up to date, and we are still going strong. A lot of new costumes planned and and a lot are being worked on at the moment.

If you are interested in knowing what is going on constantly here at the shop, be sure to bookmark our livejournal page. It keeps you updated with who is being worked on next and you can see the newest costumes posted on there as well.

As always, if you have any questions, just email us. Be sure to give us up to 7 days to reply to your email. If we have not replied to your email within the week, just re-send to make sure it was not sent into our spam box.

A lot have asked how busy we are, and the answer is simple :). 2007/2008 are booked solid and we are now filling the 2009 costume completion list. If you are wanting a quote, be sure to email us with concept art (front, side and back view) and a description of everything you are after.

Being so busy, we are only doing : Heads, Halfcostumes and Fullcostumes

(tails, hand paws, feet paws and smaller items are not available at the moment).

Thank you for reading, and happy holidays!
